Scoring System Explained
Cut-Off & Areas of Aptitude
To pass for a certain role, you must achieve both the overall cut-off score (points for this do not need to come from a specific test) and you must achieve the required score for each specific area of aptitude. The specific areas of aptitude and cut-off scores differ between roles. Each area of aptitude will also have a ‘weighting’ ie. How important it is for the role. For example, the role of WSOp Fixed Wing requires you to have very good Symbolic Reasoning, so it has a score weighting of 36x, whereas it does not require such advanced levels of Strategic Task Management and Central Information Processing, so that only has a weighting of 9x. You must achieve the overall cut-off and the specific area of aptitude scores in order to pass for your desired role.
Example Results
In the example, you can see that the overall cut-off was 90, I achieved a score of 111 and therefore passed the overall cut-off. You can see that in the specific area of aptitude of SpaR (Spatial Reasoning) I did not achieve the required score. SpaR has a weighting of 11x and the score for SpaR was taken from the Directions & Distances test (DAD) and whatever GSPA is (I don’t know). The red bar marks the required score and the green bar shows your achieved score. As I didn’t meet both the overall cut-off and the required aptitude score for SpaR, I did not pass for the role of WSOp Fixed Wing.
Calculating Scores
The overall score of a given role is calculated by multiplying the achieved stanine score (green bar 1 to 9) by its weighting for each area of aptitude of the role. The scores for each area of aptitude are then summed and divided by 5 to give the overall score.
Example using my sample score sheet for WSOP Fixed Wing above:
The area of aptitude Prcpt-STM has a weighting of 44x and I achieved a stanine of 7.
44 x 7 = 308 ∴ My score for Prcpt-STM = 308
Repeat this for the other areas of aptitude in the role:
SpaR: 11 x 2 = 22
SymR: 36 x 5 = 180
Strg-CIP: 9 x 5 = 45
Sum all of the results and then divide by 5 to get the overall score:
308 + 22 + 180 + 45 = 555
555 / 5 = 111 ∴ My overall score is 111

CBAT Score Requirements
Royal Air Force (Officers/Aircrew)
Royal Navy (FAA)
(Pilot and WSO requirements are identical to the RAF requirements)
Canadian Forces Aircrew Selection Test (CFAST)
The CFAST is scored slightly differently to the RAF CBAT. Overall cutoffs are given in the same style as stanines (no numbers), stanines do not have individual weightings and specific tests used to calculate each stanine are not named.
The Pilot role requirements are similar to the RAF CBAT requirements where a candidate must meet or exceed the stanines for individual tests and achieve or exceed the overall cutoff score to be successful. The ACSO and AEC roles only require the candidate to meet or exceed the overall cutoff score.
